NSWMA says garbage collectors will continue working until Hurricane Melissa makes it unsafe to do so
Garbage collectors from the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) will continue working until Hurricane Melissa makes it unsafe to do so.
That is the declaration from NSWMA Executive Director Audley Gordon.
Speaking with IRIE FM News this morning, Mr. Gordon said the NSWMA has increased cleaning-up operations across Jamaica following the announcement of the storm.
He said the Authority’s regional teams are working nonstop, particularly in public areas and town centres, to clear loose garbage from roadways and reduce the risk of flooding.
In the meantime, Mr. Gordon is expressing concern over the number of cut-down trees being left along roadways by residents.
He said this may clog drains and lead to flooding.
