NRSC urges relevant authorities to put measures in place to prevent road crashes during campaign period

Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) Dr. Lucien Jones is urging the relevant authorities to take the necessary measures to prevent road crashes during the campaign period.
As politicians venture out to woo voters, there is usually an increase in motorcades.
Noting that 241 people have been killed in crashes since the start of the year, Dr. Jones said greater care must be taken to prevent more lives from being lost.
Citing data that election periods account for an extra 8 deaths, Dr. Jones said he sent a letter to the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) and campaign party managers, expressing his concern.
He wants the EOJ to consider establishing clear guidelines for campaign motorcades and roadside events, including designated routes to minimize disruption.
He also wants the Electoral Office to coordinate with the police and National Works Agency to ensure traffic management and enforcement during campaign periods.
