NRSC to amplify calls this year for the use of cameras to detect reckless drivers
Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC), Dr. Lucien Jones says louder calls will be made this year for the use of cameras to detect motorists who are speeding.
He made the statement while noting that the number of road deaths needs to fall to 240 by the end of 2025.
Over 300 road deaths were recorded last year.
Dr. Jones said more cameras will help in identifying persons who break traffic laws or disobey the road code.
He also noted that this year, measures will be taken to reduce crashes and fatalities involving motorcyclists. Bikers accounted for the majority of road deaths last year.
Dr. Jones said for this year, the council should also have access to more resources.
He also wants the NRSC to become a sub-committee of Cabinet.
