NRCA undertaking inspection of all manufactured brands of sugar after metal fragments discovered in Pan Caribbean brand

The National Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA) is undertaking a comprehensive inspection programme across the country to ensure that all manufactured brands of sugar are contaminant-free.

This was after a preliminary laboratory test identified metal fragments in samples of sugar produced by Pan-Caribbean Sugar Company Limited.

The test followed a viral video on social media, in which a customer raised concerns about metal fragments in that particular product.

NCRA’s inspection programme will include surveillance, sampling and testing of all manufactured brands of sugar.

The aim is to identify, isolate and remove potentially contaminated products from circulation.

The NCRA said that it remains vigilant and is taking all necessary steps to mitigate risks, protect public health and maintain confidence in the domestic market.

The Authority is also advising the public to remain vigilant when purchasing sugar, and to follow all guidance issued in relation to this matter.
