President of the National Parent-Teacher Association of Jamaica, Stewart Jacobs has suggested that the migration of Jamaica’s master teachers, is one of the reasons for students’ poor performance, in recent examinations.

The suggestion comes amidst concern, about the performance of amaican students, in the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) examinations.

One of the subjects which saw a poor showing, was the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate, (CSEC), mathematics exam in which only 39 per cent of students obtained passes.

Commenting on the issue, Mr. Jacobs said it is worrying that so many students are failing their exams.

He noted further that the education sector should make greater use of technology to fill existing gaps.

Mr Jacobs added that students’ attitudes towards certain subjects also need to change, if any improvement is to be seen.
