Noah Lyles set for 200m showdown at Monaco Diamond League

Paris 2024 Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles has confirmed his highly-anticipated return to the track this Friday at the Monaco Diamond League. Lyles, who claimed bronze in the 200m at the Paris Games, will contest the half-lap sprint for the first time since that Olympic final.

The American, who has remained unbeaten over 200m in Diamond League competition for more than five years, has been out of action since mid-April due to a “tight ankle.” Now back to fitness, he’s set to face off against a formidable field, headlined by Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo — the Paris 200m gold medallist and recent winner at the Prefontaine Classic, where he stormed to an impressive 19.76 seconds.

The women’s sprints will also light up the Monaco track. Jamaica’s national champion Tina Clayton lines up alongside Olympic 100m champion Julien Alfred and American speedster Aleia Hobbs in the women’s 100m.

In the women’s 100m hurdles, national champion Megan Tapper will square off against a world-class line-up that includes Olympic champion Masai Russell, world leader Grace Stark, and Bahamian star Devyne Charlton.

Jamaica will also be well-represented in other events, with Nickisha Pryce competing in the women’s 400m and Andrenette Knight taking on the 400m hurdles. In the field, Jordan Scott will contest the men’s triple jump, while Romaine Beckford and Raymond Richards are slated for the men’s high jump.

Monaco’s start lists are packed with Olympic stars across the board. Grant Holloway, Mondo Duplantis, Marileidy Paulino, Yemisi Ogunleye, Emmanuel Wanyonyi, and Hamish Kerr are among the marquee names set to dazzle in one of the most anticipated meets of the season.
