“No strongly politically affiliated person should be appointed to Integrity Commission”-Opposition Leader
Leader of the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) Mark Golding is appealing to Governor General Sir Patrick Allen to ensure no strongly politically affiliated person is appointed to the Integrity Commission.
This is as the terms of several top officials at the Commission are set to expire soon.
The Commission’s Chairman, Seymour Panton will reportedly demit office tomorrow.
Since last year, the Commission has been heavily scrutinized, especially by Government officials over several high-profile reports.
Among them are two reports about the statutory declarations of Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
Speaking during the presentation of Paul Buchannan as the PNP’s candidate for St. Andrew West Central yesterday, Mr. Golding noted that the Commission is an integral anti-corruption institution that must be protected from political biases.
He said the Commission’s core function of seeking the truth should never be hindered.
