New venue for Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup qualifier between Jamaican and Panama
The venue for the Upcoming Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup qualifier between Jamaican and home team Panama has been changed.
This as a result of a nationwide protest and shutdown in Panama in opposition to the government’s plan to expand mining activities.
The match which takes place on Wednesday was scheduled to be played at the Estadio Universitaro in Penonome but has been moved to the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City……as a result of the massive protest which is expected to continue over several days after Panama’s President Laurentino Cortizo approved a new contract with Canadian mining company….First Quantum Minerals for Central America’s largest mine operation….despite concerns over environmental and national sovereignty implications.
The Panama Federation in a letter addressed to JFF General Secretary Dennis Chung said the change is being implemented to ensure the safety and security of all involved.
In the meantime, the new look squad which includes the likes of Marlo Sweatman, Chinyelu Asher, Natoya Atkinson and newcomer Zoe Vidaurre of George Mason University….is scheduled to have their first training session this afternoon at 5.
