New payment rates for truck water contractors should be publicised by this weekend.

The update came from Dr. Phillipa Campbell Francis, Vice President of Operations at the National Water Commission (NWC) while responding to questions from Members of Parliament’s infrastructure and physical development committee today.

The committee was hearing presentations from various utility companies about the impact of Hurricane Melissa on the country’s infrastructure.

The issue of trucked water was raised by committee members who lamented that getting contractors to agree to take trucked water to residents, whose piped supply has been disrupted is a challenge, due to payment issues.

In response, Dr. Campbell Francis said increased rates will be published soon.

As it relates to efficiency in payment, Committee Chair Heroy Clarke noted that this is due to procurement issues and the matter will be tackled soon.
