New Falmouth artisan village to build tourism sector and give Jamaica competitive advantage -PM Holness
Prime Minister Andrew Holness has expressed hope that the recently completed artisan village in Falmouth, Trelawny will lead to a renaissance in Jamaica’s art and craft sector.
Delivering the keynote address at Friday’s official opening, Prime Minister Holness said the artisan village is a serious attempt by the Government to ensure the diversification of the country’s tourism product.
He said while the sun, sea and sand are integral parts of Jamaica’s tourism, it will not give the country a competitive advantage.
Mr. Holness added that the Government is committed to driving the development of the arts and crafts industry by investing in infrastructure that can facilitate the training of artisans.
The Falmouth artisan village is the first of five to be developed by the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) across Jamaica’s main resort towns.
