While the Bank of Jamaica’s (BOJ) priority remains focused on low and stable inflation, there will also be a push to ensure the banking sector serves all parts of society.
Addressing his first quarterly monetary press briefing this morning, newly appointed BOJ Governor Dr. Brian Langrin outlined his vision of creating competition in the sector in an effort to reach underserved communities.
Dr. Langrin said this vision is part of the BOJ’s plan to move Jamaica forward to having a modernised financial system.
He noted that the BOJ will not be moving forward with any strategic development without discussions with the financial sector.
Meanwhile, Senior Deputy Governor Dr. Wayne Robinson explained that empowering consumers is the path to opening competition within the banking sector.
