NEPA to serve NWC with enforcement notice today, following release of untreated sewage which caused fish kill in Rio Cobre
The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) says it will be serving the National Water Commission (NWC) with an enforcement notice today.
Corporate Communications Manager at NEPA, Angela Hamilton, says the notice follows another fish kill into the Rio Cobre on December 24.
She explained that the incident was caused by a malfunctioning NWC sewage treatment plant.
Untreated sewage entered the Old John’s Gully, which flows into the Rio Cobre.
The NWC has addressed the leakage.
However, Ms. Hamilton says a notice will be issued to the water company outlining terms of compliance.
