National U17 team off to winning start at Torneo del Sol
Jamaica’s national Under-17 Reggae Boyz are off to a winning start at the Torneo del Sol in Toluca Mexico after defeating Seleccion Bajio 3-2 on Monday.
Striker Seymour Reid was the stand out player for Jamaica after scoring twice while midfielder Cadriano Marsh also got on the scoresheet.
The Jamaicans who have been drawn in Group C, will next face North Selection on Tuesday in their second game of the seven-day competition which is being hosted by the Mexican Football Federation.
Tournament host Mexico were the biggest winners on Monday, hammering Centro 5-0, Panama drew 1-1 with Sureste and Guatemala were 3-2 winners against Oriente.
The competition which features 16 teams divided into four groups of four, is being used as preparation by the four participating national teams, including Jamaica, to prepare for the Concacaf U-17 Qualifiers which is slated to kick-off in February.
The young Reggae Boyz after facing North Selection on Tuesday will meet Liga Premier Team in their final game of the group stage on Wednesday.
The top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the quarterfinals on Thursday.
