National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang has revealed that a significant number of cameras on the JamaicaEye network are malfunctioning.
He made the disclosure yesterday during a town hall meeting in New Market, St. Elizabeth.
JamaicaEye, the national CCTV surveillance system, allows registered private citizens to share footage from their cameras with local authorities.
Its primary aim is to detect and deter criminal activity.
At yesterday’s meeting in Santa Cruz, citizens raised concerns about the system. Dr. Chang acknowledged issues with maintaining the network and stated that the government will be negotiating with a local company to assist with its maintenance.
Dr. Chang added that there are also issues with connecting cameras from the private sector to the JamaicaEye network.
