National School Nutrition Policy tabled in Upper House yesterday; to be phased out over five years

The National School Nutrition Policy was tabled in the Upper House yesterday.

The five-year policy, approved by Cabinet in April, aims to promote consumption of healthier meals across public and private institutions from the early childhood to secondary level, as well as at special education institutions.

The policy was developed in partnership with the Ministries of Health and Wellness, Agriculture and Fisheries, Local Government and Community Development, as well as the Municipal Corporations, among other entities.

Education Minister, Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, said the policy marks a pivotal step in the Government’s drive to improve students’ well-being and academic performance.

Dr. Morris Dixon stressed that several consultations were conducted with various stakeholders.

She said a National Public Education Campaign will be launched soon, as well as training sessions for canteen staff and vendors.
