National record holder Jaydon Hibbert sweeps S.E.C and NCAA Indoor and Outdoor titles.
National and world under 20 triple jump record holder Jaydon Hibbert has won the prestigious Bowerman award which is given to the most outstanding American Male College Athlete in Track and field.
It comes after the university of Arkansas standout produced an undefeated collegiate season in the triple jump event, which included a sweep of the S.E.C and NCAA Indoor and Outdoor titles as well as breaking decades old collegiate and world under 20 records while ending the year as world leader.
A delighted Hibbert speaking after receiving the award at last night’s ceremony in Denver, said he was humbled and thankful.
he also described the moment as a dream come true which made up for his disappointment at the World Championship in Budapest.
The 18 year old who is youngest ever athlete to win the award…is also the first freshman winner in the men’s category and the third first-year student winner overall after Sha’carri Richardson of Louisiana state university in 2019 and Athing Mu of Texas A&M in 2021.
St. Lucia sprinter Julien Alfred….in the meantime….was named winner of the Women’s Award after a standout season during which she won 5 NCAA titles in the 60 and 200 metre events for her alma mater….the university of Texas.
