National Parent-Teacher Association pledges continued advocacy for National School Bus System
The National Parent-Teacher Association of Jamaica (NPTAJ) has pledged to continue its advocacy for a National School Bus System.
The NPTAJ and several other stakeholders have been calling for the establishment of the bus system for years.
The need for the system resurfaced last year, after several motor vehicle crashes which claimed the lives of school children.
Following the deaths of 12-year-old Richard Tulloch and 16-year-old Jody-Ann Lodge in a Clarendon crash in December, Transport Minister Daryl Vaz declared that his Ministry had completed a proposal for the operation of rural transportation for students.
According to Minister Vaz, that proposal was to be presented to Cabinet soon after.
Speaking with IRIE FM News, NPTAJ President, Stewart Jacobs said as the year progresses, the Association will continue to hold the Minister accountable to ensure children’s safety remains a priority.
He also noted that the NPTAJ is willing to collaborate with the Transport Ministry if needed.
