Murders down 19.2%

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is reporting a 19.2% decline in murders.

According to the latest police data, 897 people have been murdered in the country as at Saturday, October 12.

This is 213 fewer than the 1,110 homicides recorded in the same period last year.

St. James recorded the highest number of murders with 109, followed by St. Andrew South with 80. Portland recorded the lowest with 3.

Meantime, incidents of rape, robberies and break-ins also decreased.

Rapes went down by 116, from 390 to 274.

Robberies decreased by 113, from 604 to 491.         

While break ins declined by 15 from 706, to 691.
