MP’s will be sworn in today during the opening of Parliament
The Members of Parliament who won their seats in the September 3 General Election, will be sworn in today at Gordon House during the opening of Parliament.
Members of the Senate will also be sworn in.
It follows the recent General Election which saw the Jamaica Labour Party securing 35 seats to the People’s National Party’s 28.
During today’s ceremony, the members are expected to select the new Speaker of the House, and Deputy, as well as the selection of the new Senate President and Deputy.
They will also indicate who will serve as Leader of Government and Opposition Business, in the Upper and Lower Houses.
It’s also expected that Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness and Opposition Leader Mark Golding will address the House.
The ceremony is slated to begin at 11 am.
