Member of Parliament for West Central St. Catherine Dr. Christopher Tufton, has condemned a shooting incident in Point hill this morning, which claimed the life of one man and left 7 other people nursing gunshot wounds.

The identity of the deceased has not been released.

Reports are that at about 12:45 A.M., persons were at a wake for Reggae artiste Christopher Martin’s grandmother, when gunmen opened fire hitting 8 individuals.

The wounded people were taken to hospital where 1 man succumbed.

The others are being treated.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, Dr. Tufton said it is unfortunate that people who gathered to pay respect to the deceased woman were attacked.

Meantime, Christopher Martin has also condemned the incident.

In a post to his Instagram account, Mr. Martin said his grandmother was a woman of deep faith and endless sacrifice who taught him the true meaning of love and community.

The entertainer said it’s devastating to see violence cast a shadow over what should have been a moment of peace and remembrance.

He expressed sympathies to those affected by the incident and urged persons to help the police in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
