MP concerned about $150 million cut in budget for modernization of agriculture sector
Member of Parliament for St. Ann South Eastern, Lisa Hanna, has raised concerns about a $150 million cut in the budget for the modernisation of the agriculture sector.
She was speaking during yesterday’s meeting of parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee (PAAC), which was discussing the third supplementary estimates of the budget.
Miss Hanna noted that while other countries that are succeeding in agriculture are increasing their budgets for the sector, Jamaica is doing the opposite.
In response, Financial Secretary Darlene Morrison sought to explain the reason for the budget cut, however, Miss Hanna remained adamant that the country’s farmers are being treated with scant regard.
