MP for St.Catherine Southern, Fitz Jackson stresses that the PNP will take several measures if government proceeds with changes to Portmore municipality

Member of Parliament for St. Catherine Southern, Fitz Jackson has stressed that the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) will take several measures if the government proceeds with changes to the municipality of Portmore.

Last week Tuesday, Mr. Jackson accused the Jamaica Labour Party administration of seeking to gerrymander political boundaries in St. Catherine and Portmore.

Hours later, the ‘Counties and Parishes (Amendment) Act, 2025’ which will pave the way to make Portmore the fifteenth parish was tabled in Parliament.

Speaking during the party’s launch of the North West St. Catherine campaign last evening, Mr. Jackson said the bill is seeking to overturn the results of last year’s local government election by removing the mayor.

He said if the government proceeds with it, the PNP will resist it.

Mr. Jackson said the PNP will challenge it in court as well as take to the streets.
