MP for NW St. Catherine Damion Crawford to engage peace management initiative to prevent reprisals after Commodore mass shooting
Member of Parliament for North West St. Catherine Damion Crawford says discussions will be had with representatives of the peace management initiative, to help prevent any reprisal from last evening’s mass shooting in Commodore, Linstead.
Five people, including a young girl, have been confirmed dead.
The deceased have been identified as four-year-old Shannon Gordon, 19-year-old Jowane Walters, 39-year-old, Iysha Washington and 42-year-old Mario Sullivan, all from Rosemount District, Linstead and 22-year-old Famous Amos from Commodore.
Four others, including an 11-year-old boy are being treated at hospital.
The police theorize that the incident is gang related.
Speaking with IRIE FM News, MP Crawford explained that in addition to working to subdue any reprisal, steps will be taken to engage the affected families and communities to see how best grief support can be provided.
The peace management initiative aims to reduce community-based violence by using alternative dispute resolution, mediation and social development programmes.
