Mount Pleasant target winning return as Jamaica Premier League resumes
Newly crowned Caribbean Club Champions Mount Pleasant FA will be looking to pick up where they left off internationally when they return to domestic duty on Sunday, as the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League resumes following a month-long break.
The competition was suspended on October 23 after Hurricane Melissa caused widespread damage across sections of the island five days later, forcing a pause to fixtures. With stability now returning, four matches are set to usher in the restart.
Mount Pleasant, fresh off their historic regional triumph, head to the Dunbeholden Sports Complex aiming to climb from their current position of eighth in the standings. The St Ann-based outfit sit on nine points from just five matches — four fewer than most teams — due to their extended run in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup.
Their opponents, Dunbeholden FC, enter the contest in 11th place on eight points, having registered two wins, two draws and three losses so far. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
Elsewhere on Sunday, second-place Portmore United host Arnett Gardens at Ferdie Neita Park, Harbour View welcome Spanish Town Police to the Harbour View Mini Stadium, and third-place Racing United face Molynes United at Stadium East. All three matches also begin at 3:00 p.m.
Stadium East will then serve as the venue for Monday night’s double-header. Defending champions Cavalier meet league leaders Montego Bay United at 5:00 p.m., followed by Tivoli Gardens taking on Waterhouse at 7:30 p.m.
Newly promoted Treasure Beach FC will not feature this round, having been granted additional time to complete preparations after suffering severe damage from the Category 5 hurricane.
Montego Bay United currently head the table on 22 points, with Portmore United four points back in second and Racing United third on 15.
