Mount Pleasant take command with 5–1 rout of Defence Force in Caribbean Cup semifinal

Former Jamaica Premier League champions Mount Pleasant FA took a giant step toward the final of the 2025 Concacaf Caribbean Cup after a commanding 5–1 victory over Defence Force FC of Trinidad and Tobago in the first leg of their semifinal tie on Wednesday night.

Playing at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, the Jamaicans were in control from start to finish, delivering a ruthless attacking performance that leaves them firmly in charge ahead of next week’s return leg in Kingston.

Mount Pleasant got off to a dream start, with Warner Brown opening the scoring in just the 5th minute when he pounced inside the area to fire home from close range. Ten minutes later, the lead was doubled — defender Jamoi Topey sent a precise long ball over the top, and Raheem Edwards reacted smartly to finish off the bounce for a 2–0 advantage.

Edwards struck again in the 57th minute to complete his brace before substitute Shaqueil Bradford made it 4–0 in the 85th minute, racing clear on goal after being played through by Chevaughn Walsh.

There was still time for more, as Kimoni Bailey added his name to the scoresheet in stoppage time, cutting past a defender in the 90’+3’ before blasting home his first goal of the tournament..

The Theodore Whitmore led team appeared poised for a fifth consecutive clean sheet, but Defence Force managed a late consolation in the 90’+7’ through Kaihim Thomas, who slipped one past goalkeeper Tafari Chambers.

With the emphatic result, Mount Pleasant equalled the competition’s longest winning streak — five straight victories — previously set by Cibao FC between August and October 2024.

The return leg of the semifinal will be played next Wednesday, October 29, at the National Stadium in Kingston.

Meanwhile, the other semifinal kicks off on Thursday in Santo Domingo, where Universidad O&M FC will host fellow Dominican Republic club Cibao FC at the Félix Sánchez Stadium.
