Mount Pleasant facing another massive payout following FIFA ruling

Caribbean Shield champions Mount Pleasant are facing another massive payout, based on a ruling by football’s world governing body, FIFA.

Irie FM Sports understands that FIFA has handed down its ruling on the case involving former player Sean McFarlane, who had gone to FIFA seeking compensation of 83 thousand U.S. dollars, or just about 13 million Jamaican dollars.

In his formal claim to the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber, McFarlane alleged wrongful termination of his contract by Mount Pleasant Football Academy.

McFarlane, who signed a two-year contract with the club that would have ended in December 2026, also claimed that Mount Pleasant breached its obligations by failing to provide proper medical care following ankle injuries sustained during the 2025 season.

He also alleged that he was excluded from team activities, received little communication from club officials, and was later dismissed without just cause.

According to the filing, the player was instructed to remain overseas before being terminated for failing to meet match participation requirements and for alleged absence without medical certification—grounds which he disputes.

The claim also accused the club of blocking his international clearance, limiting his ability to sign with another team.

In addition to the financial compensation, McFarlane was also seeking a ruling declaring the termination unlawful.

The reports now are that FIFA has ruled that the player be compensated just over 48 thousand dollars, or over seven and a half million Jamaican dollars.

In May 2025, Mount Pleasant was also punished by FIFA after they failed to pass a second assessment of compliance in relation to the transfer of player Nique Daley. The club was banned from registering players nationally and internationally and was fined three thousand Swiss Francs.
