Morris-Dixon suggests review of laws relating to oversight remit of ministry for schools that require intervention
Education Minister Dr Dana Morris Dixon has stated that laws relating to the oversight remit of the ministry for schools that require serious intervention, need review.
This in relation to the recent incident at the St James High school, involving the board chairman and principal.
The dispute has resulted in the school being closed, adversely affecting the teaching and learning schedule for students.
Responding to questions from reporters at the post cabinet press briefing Dr. Morris-Dixon lamented that interpersonal issues and internal politics should never be allowed to impact students’ lessons.
Dr Morris-Dixon noted that there was a breakdown in the governance structure at St James High, with board members calling for greater involvement in decision making processes.
She added that the government will also be examining the policies and regulations on school governance, to include the appointment of boards.
