More than 1,000 murders recorded in Jamaica since January
Over 1000 people have been murdered in the country, since January.
Statistics from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, indicate that 1003 murders were recorded, up to yesterday (August 29).
This is 52 more than the 951 recorded, in the corresponding period, last year.
It represents an increase of 5.5 percent.
The St. James Police Division recorded the highest number of murders, with 136, followed by St. Catherine North, with 100.
There were also increases in cases of robbery and break-ins.
Robberies increased by 76, from 524, to 6 hundred, while break-ins went up by 37, from 617, to 654.
There was a decline in reported cases of rape, which went down by 54, from 318, to 264.
