Monument to be erected in honour of Kendal train crash victims; MOU signed yesterday
The Culture Ministry and the Manchester Municipal Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the erection of a monument in honour of the victims of the Kendal train crash of 1957.
Portfolio Minister, Olivia Grange and Mayor of Mandeville, Donovan Mitchell signed the MOU yesterday.
The Ministry will provide $7.9 million to build the monument.
It will be unveiled on September 1, 2025, which will mark the 68th anniversary of the rail mishap, which was the worst in the history of Jamaica, and amongst the worst in the world.
The monument will be followed by the construction of a memorial park and then a museum.
