Montego Bay perimeter road about 80% complete

Works minister Robert Morgan says the Montego Bay perimeter road in St. James is about 80% complete and is expected to be finished by May next year.

Mr. Morgan made the disclosure during a tour of sections of the perimeter road today.

He expressed satisfaction with the project, noting that it will be completed ahead of schedule and within budget.

He said the work done on this road is a testament to the collaboration of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), local engineers and the management of the National Road Operating and Constructing Company (NROCC).

Pointing to the work that has already been done, Mr. Morgan noted that the road has been asphalted.

Responding to a question from the media about opening sections of the road ahead of completion, he said any such plan would have to be guided by the safety of the motorists.

Work on the US $274m project includes, the Montego Bay bypass road, Barnett Street / West Green Avenue road rehabilitation, Long Hill bypass to reduce road traffic congestion and a comprehensive drainage study of the Montego Bay bypass area.
