Mining Minister Floyd Green says the Jiuquan Iron and Steel Company (JISCO) Alpart facility in Nain, St. Elizabeth, will be reopened soon.

This disclosure was made at the National Minerals Week Church Service at the Black River Independent Baptist Church in the parish on Sunday.

Mr. Green said the bauxite plant, which was closed in 2019 to make way for the modernisation and expansion of the facility, will be reopened on a phased basis starting at the end of this year.

In the meantime, Minister Green also outlined the growth of the mining industry, noting that USD$345 million was earned from exports last year.
