Mining Minister Floyd Green has assured that the search for high-value, chemical grade limestone will not affect the country’s underground water system.
The ministry has been directed to create a limestone value-addition programme aimed at identifying deposits suitable for higher value products such as food-grade calcium carbonate.
Speaking at the post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House yesterday, Mr. Green noted that significant limestone quarrying is being carried out across the island.
He said this is being done in accordance with the country’s environmental standards.
