Two men found guilty of the 2018 murder of returned resident Delroy Walker were sentenced yesterday in the Home Circuit court.

Dwayne Barton and Davian Edwards, who were convicted earlier this year, received prison terms of 29 and 22 years respectively, following reductions for mitigation and time served.

Barton was initially sentenced to 42 years but with mitigation, the sentence was reduced to 29 years before he becomes eligible for parole.

Edwards received a 30-year sentence, which was reduced to 22 years.

He must serve 13 years before becoming eligible for parole.

Walker, who had returned to Jamaica after living and working in the United Kingdom for several years, was fatally attacked at his home in St. Mary in April 2018 by Barton and Edwards – men he had employed to help with work on his house.

He died from a stab wound to the chest and sustained 19 additional non-fatal injuries to his face, head, fingers, hands and knees.

The men were arrested in May 2018 after a police investigation linked them to the crime through DNA evidence.

The crown presented evidence showing both Barton and Edwards were present at the scene during the fatal attack.

A jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict earlier this year, following years of delays and adjournments in the case.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, brother of the deceased Steve Walker said he received the call about the incident in April 2018 and described it as a moment that changed the family’s life.

He welcomed yesterday’s sentencing saying justice has now been served.
