Mavado’s son Dantay Brooks and co-accused freed

The son dancehall artiste Mavado, Dantay Brooks and his co-accused Andre Hinds were today freed, after their life sentences were overturned by the Court of Appeal.

Speaking with IRIE FM today, lawyer for Dantay, Hugh Wildman expressed joy that the Court of Appeal agreed with their grounds of appeal.

Lawyer Oswest Snr Smith represented the co-accused, Hinds.

The men were handed life sentences in 2021 by the Home Circuit Court in Downtown Kingston for the 2018 murder of 23-year-old Lorenzo Thomas. Dantay, who was 18 years old at the time of the conviction, had also been sentenced to fifteen years for arson and twenty years for illegal possession of firearm.
