Marine police probe suspected drowning after vehicle plunges off Portmore Causeway
The Marine Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a man who is suspected to have drowned after his vehicle went over the Portmore Causeway Bridge in St Catherine yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as 62-year-old Jing Wang of Hopefield Avenue, Kingston 10.
According to police reports, around 10:15 A.M., Wang was on the bridge fishing when passersby saw his vehicle plunge into the sea and raised an alarm.
Responding officers, along with divers from the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Coast Guard, launched an extensive search operation using both aerial and maritime resources.
Wang was recovered from the water and transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation is ongoing.
In the wake of the incident, the police are reminding the public that fishing along the Portmore Causeway Bridge is prohibited, as it is a restricted area.
