Marcia Griffiths to be honoured with Icon’s Award during Reggae Month
On the heels of celebrating her Diamond Jubilee in music, Marcia Griffiths, the Queen of Reggae, will be honoured with the Icon’s Award during Reggae Month 2025.
In making the announcement, Culture and Entertainment Minister Olivia Grange, shared that Griffiths will receive the award during the Reggae Open University’s JaRIA’s Reggae Wednesday concert series, on February 28 for her outstanding contribution to music.
The reggae icon’s 60-year career highlights include numerous solo records, over 50 collaborations with singers such as Shaggy and Buju Banton, and seven years spent in the I-Threes — a trio consisting of Judy Mowatt and Rita Marley, which sang with Bob Marley until he died.
In October 2014, Griffiths was conferred with the Jamaican Order of Distinction (Commander class) and in October of 2023 she was conferred with the Order of Jamaica (OJ) Jamaica’s fourth-highest national honour.
