Manpower workers assigned to Spanish Town Hospital upset about termination letters; company to hold meeting tomorrow
Several Janitorial workers of Manpower and Maintenance Services Limited, who are employed at the Spanish Town Hospital in St. Catherine are threatening industrial action over termination letters, issued by their company.
A copy of one of the letters obtained by Irie Fm News, outlines that the workers are being terminated, under section 11 clause 11.3, which states that the company reserves the right to terminate an employee, upon the request of the client, or that the company’s contract with the client comes to an end.
The contract between Manpower and the hospital has reportedly ended.
As a result workers are to be terminated effective July 31.
One worker told Irie Fm News that this will affect her and, her colleagues greatly.
Meantime, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Manpower, Garth Hinchcliffe told Irie Fm News, that a meeting will be held with workers about the matter tomorrow (July 12).
He said the letters were sent in keeping with standard procedures and efforts will be made, to re–assign staff to other locations where possible.
