Manchester Police defend response to domestic incident that left man who chopped his elderly dad fatally shot
The Manchester police are adamant that clear instructions were given for Okarie Gayle to drop his machete after he inflicted wounds on his 77-year-old father before he was fatally shot by cops.
Commanding Officer, Deputy Superintendent Carey Duncan made the defence in light of concern that the police team which responded to the domestic dispute at the father and son’s home acted excessively.
The matter which occurred along Decarteret Road in Mandeville is being probed by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
DSP Duncan gave the police’s account of how the incident unfolded.
He lauded the responding team for its quick response while noting that the situation could have turned out worse.
DSP Duncan implored residents to resolve domestic disputes through peaceful means to reduce the likelihood of violence between relatives.
