A section of Cassia Park Road near the Molynes Road area in St. Andrew has been cordoned off by the police following the fatal shooting of a man.

The deceased has not been identified.

Commanding Officer for the St. Andrew Central Police Division, Acting Senior Superintendent Mark Harris told IRIE FM News that lawmen were conducting an operation when they met resistance.

Following the alleged confrontation, one man was found dead and a firearm with several rounds of ammunition seized.

Acting Senior Superintendent Harris said the police remain in the area, awaiting the arrival of representatives of the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes where possible.
