Man named as wanted in relation to murder of veteran jockey O’niel Mullings, while his brother named person of interest

One of the brothers who was listed as a person of interest in relation to the murder of veteran jockey O’niel Mullings yesterday, has now been listed as wanted in relation to the incident.

37-year-old Samuel Brown, otherwise known as “Shooter” or “Mark”, and his brother Shaun Brown, both labourers of Four Forty Drive, Kingston 11 were listed as persons of interest in relation to the incident this morning.

However, Head of the St. Andrew South Police Senior Superintendent Damion Manderson says Samuel Brown, is no longer a person of interest but is wanted in relation to the murder.

Brown is being urged to turn himself in immediately. Members of the public are also reminded that it is a criminal offence to harbour a fugitive.

Anyone with information that can assist in locating him is asked to contact the Hunts Bay Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) at 876-923-7230, crime stop at 311, the JCF tip line at 811 or the nearest police station.

SSP Manderson said the other brother Shaun Brown is still a person of interest in the case.

Reports are that 49-year-old Mullings a jockey of Samson View Avenue, Kingston was gunned down in his community yesterday.

The Hunts Bay police say that about 6:42 PM Mullings was standing along the roadway, when an armed man approached him brandished a firearm and opened gunfire hitting him to the head and upper body.

The police were summoned and upon their arrival Mullings was taken to hospital where he succumbed.

In the meantime, Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited, Operators of Caymanas Park, expressed shock and sadness by the tragic passing of Mr. Mullings.

It said Mullings, who began his riding career in 2002, was a veteran of the sport with 415 career wins.

Supreme Ventures said his dedication and skill in the saddle made him a respected figure among his peers and in Jamaica’s racing community.
