One man was fatally shot by police during an operation in Salt Spring, St. James this afternoon.

The shooting occurred during a targeted operation in the Go Peace Lane district.

Reports are that the man is believed to be among a group that allegedly confronted cops who had thwarted a robbery attempt at a supermarket on Church Street, last evening.

Two members of the St. James Beat Officer Patrol Division were shot and wounded in the exchange.

Their wounds are not considered life-threatening.

Police carried out the operation in salt spring today, where it’s reported that bloody shoes and clothing were recovered.

It’s reported that a bag of coins and a pistol were also seized.
