Man fatally shot in confrontation with licenced firearm holder during attempted robbery in Portland, 8 in custody
Police have identified a man who was fatally shot, during a confrontation with a licenced firearm holder, at a business establishment in Hope Bay, Portland this morning.
He is 23-year-old Orlando Beverly of King Western District, St. Andrew.
Another man was wounded in the foiled robbery incident.
Police say one 9 mm pistol and several rounds of ammunition were seized.
Commanding Officer for Portland Deputy Superintendent Ainsley McCarthy said that at about 2:30 a.m., armed men broke into a business establishment and were challenged by the licenced firearm holder who alerted the lawmen.
When the shooting subsided, two men were found with gunshot wounds.
They were assisted to hospital where Beverly was pronounced dead and the other is being treated.
DSP McCarthy says eight persons were taken into custody, two of whom are the mother and sister of the wounded man.
