A man was fatally shot by police during an alleged confrontation in York Avenue, St. Andrew this morning.

Dead is 24 year old Shamar Riley of York Avenue.

Reports are that shortly after midnight, officers from the St. Andrew South division were in the community, when they observed a group of men acting suspiciously.

Upon seeing the cops, the men ran off while opening fire at the cops, who returned the fire.

One man ran unto a premises, where he pointed a gun at the cops.

He was shot by the cops and later taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A gun was reportedly taken from the man.

Further reports are that residents had gathered in the community, at the wake for an alleged member of the Bottom York Avenue gang, who had been fatally shot by police in January.

The police have since beefed up their presence in the community in a bid to maintain order.
