Man charged for machete attack on St Ann’s Bay Mayor Michael Belnavis

A St Mary man has been charged in relation to the attack on St Ann’s Bay Mayor Michael Belnavis at his home in St Mary, last month.

He is thirty-four-year-old Chad Thomas of Ramble.

Thomas has been charged with housebreaking, wounding with intent and malicious destruction of property.

This follows an attack on Mr. Belnavis in Boscobel, on Monday, January 20.

Reports from the Oracabessa Police are that the mayor visited his premises, which is under construction.

Upon his arrival, he observed his television light on and decided to investigate further.

He reportedly saw Thomas, who he had seen before, but did not know by name, sitting on a couch.

The Mayor reportedly ordered Thomas to leave the premises.

However, Thomas reportedly attacked Mayor Belnavis with a machete inflicting several wounds to his head and hands.

During the attack, Thomas was shot and wounded.

The police were summoned and both men were taken to hospital for treatment.

Thomas was charged after an identification parade on Monday, February 4.

His court date is being finalised.
