Majority of school vacancies filled – Williams
As the new school year gets underway, Education Minister Fayval Williams is reiterating that the majority of vacancies in the island’s schools have been filled or are in the process of being filled.
Speaking in her back to school message last evening, Mrs Williams noted that the ministry is in constant contact with schools ensuring that the vacancies are filled.
Meantime, minister Williams says one of the ministry’s main focus this academic year will be the implementation of the recommendations made by the Jamaica Education Transformation Commission.
The commission’s report had outlined 54 recommendations addressing governance and accountability, early-childhood education, teaching curriculum, and teacher training; among other areas.
Mrs Williams notes that the implementation of the recommendations is important for improvement in the education sector.
And Mrs Williams adds that the ministry has ensured that the majority of primary school teachers were equipped with laptops prior to the start of this academic year.
