Majority of public school teachers get increments payment; rest to get next month
The ministry of education has indicated that the finance ministry has paid increments to 90 % of the country’s public school teachers.
The remaining teachers should get theirs by next month.
In a statement, the ministry expressed appreciation for the dedication of educators, noting that the payment reflects a commitment to valuing the contribution of educators.
Permanent Secretary Dr. Kasan Troupe emphasized that all teachers will receive their increments within the timeline approved by the ministry of finance.
The increment payment issue has been a contentious one, with the Jamaica Teachers Association lobbying the government to make payments by April but when this did not happen, the teachers became upset.
The ministry pointed out that the stated timeline for payment was the first quarter of the new fiscal year, that is, April to June.
