Major town centres islandwide should have electricity between Christmas and New Year’s Day
All major town centres islandwide should have electricity between Christmas and New Years Day.
This as efforts by the Jamaica Public Service (JPS), to restore power post Hurricane Melissa, will be bolstered by the arrival of 300 more linesmen this weekend, as well as additional equipment before Christmas.
The update was given by Energy Minister Daryl Vaz at yesterday’s post cabinet press briefing.
Vaz noted that JPS is currently at 82 percent restored power.
The aim is to be at 90 percent by Christmas.
Vaz said the linesmen will be assigned to the hard hit parishes, with accommodation being provided on a ship docked on the south coast.
He said parish municipal corporations are also collaborating with the ministry on identifying priority areas.
