“Major poultry producers seeing increases in production levels”-Agriculture Minister Green
The country’s major poultry producers have begun to see an increase in their production levels.
This is two weeks after Agriculture Minister Floyd Green told IRIE FM News that the sector, which was severely impacted by Hurricane Beryl in July, was experiencing a downturn of up to 15 per cent with demand increasing to 30 per cent.
Concern over the shortage of chicken in the country prompted meetings between the Ministry and key stakeholders, who gave assurances that the chicken supply would be able to meet the demand after two weeks.
When asked for an update yesterday, Mr. Green said producers are seeing growth in their production levels.
He noted, however, that there are still concerns over the inventory levels of the poultry producers.
As a result, Mr. Green says continuous monitoring is taking place, and if the gaps persist, especially as the yuletide season approaches, importation may be considered.
