Major improvements in PPV operators’ driving habits since Feb 2023 but a few perpetuating stigma – All Voice Route Taxi Association President

There have been major improvements in the driving habits of public passenger vehicle operators since February 2023.

That defence from President of the All Voice Route Taxi Association, Lorraine Finnikin.

It comes amidst repeated complaints by commuters, motorists and other road users about the reckless driving patterns being portrayed by several operators across the country.

The issue has again been thrown into the spotlight as road safety stakeholders continue efforts to reduce road crashes and fatalities. There are at least 113 road deaths so far this year.

Speaking with IRIE FM News, Mr. Finnikin says it is unfortunate that, though positive changes are being made, the actions of a few are perpetuating the negative stigma surrounding operators.

He points to three major thoroughfares in the Kingston Metropolitan Transportation Region (KMTR) on which several operators drive recklessly.

Mr. Finnikin is calling on the authorities to increase patrols along the Washington Boulevard as well as on the Molynes and Red Hills Roads.
