Lyles targets Stadium 100m record at Racers Grand Prix

Reigning World sprint double Champion Noah Lyles says he will be targeting the Stadium record when he steps on the field to contest the men’s 100 meters at the 6th staging of the Racers Grand Prix at the National Stadium.

The fastest 100 meters time ever run at the National Stadium is 9.75 seconds set by Yohan Blake at the National Championships in 2012, beating the previous mark of 9.76 seconds done by Usain Bolt in 2008 at the Jamaica International Invitational.

Lyles’ has a personal best of 9.83 seconds which he did on his way to winning the gold medal at last’s year’s World Athletics Championships in Budapest and the 26 year old American says the aim is to create history tomorrow.

Lyles will face competition from young Jamaican sprint star Oblique Seville, Britain’s Zharnel Hughes and Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala.

He says he is a strong believer that the best must compete at any given time and not to dodge until the major championships come around.

Meantime Lyles, Olympic Champion Hansle Parchment, World 400 meters champion Antonio Watson, World Under 20 record holders Triple jumper Jaydon Hibbert and 400 meters hurdler Roshawn Clarke are among the marquee athletes listed to compete at the racers grand prix at the national stadium tomorrow.
